It's been a while since I have been here. The food is amazing as always. FRESH FRESH FRESH!!! One of the many things I love about the food here is that the food is always fresh!!
Service is always excellent and the have a wide variety of options available for everyone's taste. Food is truly authentic, it's almost like taking a trip to Mexico without ever leaving home! -

I'm currently visiting a series of food places that have been on my bookmark list for a long time, with most of these being on that list for as much as 3-5 years. This one falls on the lower end, and has probably been on there for about 3 years.
This place has very authentic Mexican food, and as a whole, it's a solid spot. It's on the smaller side, and only other people in there besides a few of my friends were Hispanic. You do get free chips and salsa, and the chips are on the thicker side, which isn't my favorite (I adore thin and crispy, but that's just me!), but the salsa was soooo good. I kept trying to get myself to stop, but I just... couldn't. Since we were waiting for another person for a little while, we ended up eating all of the chips and we had to expressly request more after being empty for about 5 minutes. There were 4 of us and one chip basket, so it's not like I was munching down on the whole thing myself. I also had request water constantly because it completely emptied out, and the restaurant really only had two other tables, so it wasn't terribly busy. So the service wasn't terribly attentive, but I don't think it was awful, either.
THE VERDICT:
I ordered 3 tacos, and my meal in total was under $7. The tacos here are good. Cheap, flavorful, and well-seasoned. They came with lime wedges and what I think were slices of radish. Great ratios of meat-to-tortilla, too. So I'd say if you're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit, but I've had comparably good authentic Mexican food closer to me, so I wouldn't make this further trip when I have closer options. -

In my opinion restaurants are about the experience/ambiance, food or hopefully both. You won't find the experience or ambiance at La Carreta, but you'll definitely good Mexican food. It took me 10 years and multiple failed attempts (Ehem, Nuevo Laredo), but finally found a place with damn good Mexican in Atlanta. My go to are the Mole Enchiladas, made with white meat shredded chicken and nice and spicy mole sauce. It comes with a side of salad and some amazing rice, not the typical "Mexican rice," you get at most places, but more like arroz Con fideos minus the fideos. Their tacos are authentic street style tacos, they're quite amazing too. I haven't tried any other dishes yet, but most definitely will. Great place!

Solid Mexican joint. Casual, no frills but good food.
Salsa is yummy and different from the norm. Chips aren't as fresh or thin as I like but fine.
Awkward moment coming in without a clear direction of where to go or should we seat ourselves.
Table not clean but server was attentive and kind.
No cheese dip but I don't need it.
6.99 burrito a la carte
2.00 tacos with up-charge for steak
Outdoor and indoor seating options. Plenty of parking. -

How I judge a good Mexican place is by their chips and salsa. From the minute we got that, we knew we were in for a treat. Amazing chips and amazing salsa - dare I say the BEST salsa in Atlanta! We ordered tacos (chicken, steak and shrimp) to try it all and then shrimp nachos which was a mountain of goodness! Really chill, low key and good food. Perfect place to drop in on!
